Oakland University co-founder Matilda Dodge Wilson once said: \u201cTo attempt great things is to expect great things.\u201d<\/p>\n
Matilda embodied that spirit throughout her remarkable life. At a time of limited opportunities for women, she supported education as the primary vehicle to individual and community success and prosperity. She served as the country\u2019s first woman lieutenant governor. And alongside her husband, Alfred, she donated their family estate so that it could become something larger than themselves: Oakland University.<\/p>\n
Matilda envisioned Oakland becoming a vibrant hub of learning \u2014 a place where opportunity would be, in her words, \u201calmost without bounds.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nearly seventy years later, that is what Oakland has become \u2014 and you are now part of that story.<\/p>\n
