Orange County Transportation Authority officials will hold an open house today to help families sign up for a new system required to continue receiving free bus rides through the agency’s Youth Ride Free program.<\/p>\n
Families participating in the program must transition to a new system involving the use of a Wave card.<\/p>\n
Parents or guardians must create or sign up for a Wave account before applying for the Youth Ride Free program. The accounts will be linked, and participating young people will receive a Wave card they can use to board buses for free, officials said.<\/p>\n
The accounts will need to be renewed every two years, officials said. \u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n
Families who fail to complete the process by Sept. 30 will lose the Youth Ride Free benefit until they complete the application for the new program, which is open to young people ages 6 to 18.<\/p>\n
“OCTA’s Youth Ride Free program has helped thousands of young people throughout Orange County get where they need to go safely and affordably,” OCTA Chair Jamey M. Federico said. “Moving the program to Wave makes it easier to manage the benefit while helping ensure that students can continue riding OC Bus for free.”<\/p>\n
The open house will be held from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at OCTA headquarters, 550 S. Main St. in Orange.
