SOUTHFIELD \u2014 The suspect in a 2024 carjacking in Southfield, who is currently serving time for unrelated charges in Ohio, is expected to be arraigned on seven new charges from the Oakland County Prosecutor\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

The suspect is currently serving time at the Lebanon Correctional Institution in Ohio, and he is expected to be extradited to Michigan to be arraigned on charges authorized by the Oakland County Prosecutor\u2019s Office. The suspect\u2019s name and photo have not been released, as he has yet to be arraigned in Michigan.<\/p>\n

At approximately 6:34 a.m. on Sept. 6, 2024, Southfield police dispatch received a 911 call detailing a carjacking. Reportedly, a 19-year-old woman had arrived at the Chick-fil-A located at 28588 Telegraph Road for her work shift when she was approached by the suspect, a 30-year-old man from Louisville, Kentucky. Allegedly, he pointed a handgun at her chest and demanded her cellphone and the keys to her black 2013 Ford Focus. He reportedly fled in the car before police arrived.<\/p>\n

The cellphone\u2019s location was shared with a friend of the victim, and the friend told police that the cellphone appeared to be in the area of the Southfield Freeway and McNichols Road in Detroit. When officers arrived in the area, neither the cellphone nor vehicle could be located.<\/p>\n

Members of the Oakland County Auto Theft Task Force utilized Flock data to track the license plate of the Ford Focus. At approximately 7 a.m., a Flock notification showed the vehicle in the area of Southfield Road and Interstate 75 in Lincoln Park. Another notification at approximately 10:41 a.m. showed the vehicle in the area of Sullivan Avenue and South Warren Avenue in Columbus, Ohio.<\/p>\n

The Columbus Police Department was notified. They located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit, which reportedly ended with the vehicle crashing. The suspect reportedly fled on foot and evaded officers. The firearm was recovered by police.<\/p>\n

In November 2025, investigators learned the suspect was being held at the Lebanon Correctional Institution in Ohio on unrelated felony charges with a release date in 2030. During an interview with Oakland County detectives in March, the suspect was allegedly uncooperative and said he had never been to Michigan.<\/p>\n

On May 8, investigators reportedly received forensic lab results that matched the suspect to DNA found on the gun and a section of the Ford Focus\u2019 airbag.<\/p>\n

At a press conference on Sept. 4, Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren said Flock technology was one of the most important tools used to solve this case.<\/p>\n

\u201cCriminals are getting smarter; they\u2019re thinking of ways to escape, and one of those ways is going to a whole other state to evade apprehension,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have the technology, persistent detectives and we communicate well outside of our agency and state. We will continue to use technology to apprehend these felons and give justice to our victims.\u201d<\/p>\n

The woman, now 21, was in attendance at the press conference. She declined to speak with the media.<\/p>\n

The Oakland County Prosecutor\u2019s Office has authorized one count of carjacking, three counts of felony firearm, one count of firearm possession by a felon and one count of carrying a concealed weapon.\n <\/p>\n
