Maybe Buchanan High viewed playing Liberty-Bakersfield as its biggest test of the year.<\/p>\n
Or maybe not.<\/p>\n
Either way, the Bears quickly took care of business.<\/p>\n
The Fresno Bee\u2019s third-ranked Buchanan scored early and often, rolling to a 49-7 victory over No. 17 Liberty-Bakersfield on Thursday in Bakersfield.<\/p>\n
Buchanan quarterback Tommy Devany and running back Gannon Sever led the way offensively.<\/p>\n
Devany had plenty of time in the pocket and threw three touchdown passes, while Sever broke loose for a 47-yard touchdown run in the second quarter that gave Buchanan a 34-0 lead with 6 minutes remaining in the first half. Sever finished with three touchdowns.<\/p>\n
For the first time this season, the Bears\u2019 defense stood tall, holding an opponent to fewer than 20 points.<\/p>\n
Through their first three games, Buchanan (3-1) had allowed 82 points, including 34 against Manteca.<\/p>\n
That is now in the past.<\/p>\n
The Bears clamped down against Liberty-Bakersfield, giving their offense plenty of cushion and cruising to the victory.<\/p>\n
No. 11 Kingsburg 33, El Diamante 0<\/p>\n
The Vikings scored 33 points in the first half and rolled to a shutout victory over the Miners.<\/p>\n
Kingsburg improved to 3-1.<\/p>\n
