SACRAMENTO, Calif. \u2014 The Coast Guard\u00a0commemorated\u00a0the delivery of the first HC\u2011130J Super Hercules\u00a0aircraft\u00a0to Air Station Sacramento during a ceremony Thursday.<\/p>\n
The HC\u2011130J provides heavy air transport and\u00a0long\u2011range\u00a0maritime patrol capability. The aircraft\u2019s missionized configuration delivers intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities that enable the Coast Guard to save lives, control, secure, and defend U.S. borders and maritime approaches,\u00a0facilitate\u00a0commerce, and respond to crises and contingencies.<\/p>\n
The ceremony was presided over by Vice Adm. Joseph Buzzella, commander of U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Area and the Coast Guard\u2019s\u00a0Ancient Albatross. It marked the delivery of HC-130J capability to the air station and recognized the government and industry teams that funded, built, missionized,\u00a0tested\u00a0and delivered CGNR-2018.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a monumental step forward for Air Station Sacramento and the future of Coast Guard aviation,\u201d said Buzzella. \u201cThe HC\u2011130J will be critical to detecting and interdicting migrant and narcotics flows through the maritime approaches to our nation.\u201d<\/p>\n
The HC-130J has a cruise speed of 320 knots, a range of 4,900 nautical miles, and an endurance of more than 20 hours. The\u00a0aircraft\u00a0can serve as an\u00a0on-scene\u00a0command-and-control platform or as a surveillance asset with the ability to detect, classify, and\u00a0identify\u00a0objects and share that information with operational forces.<\/p>\n
CGNR-2018 is the 18th missionized Super Hercules in the Coast Guard fleet. A second HC-130J\u00a0aircraft\u00a0for\u00a0Sacramento\u00a0is undergoing missionization at L3Harris in Waco, Texas, with delivery\u00a0anticipated\u00a0in spring 2027.<\/p>\n
The Coast Guard is using a\u00a0portion\u00a0of the $1.142 billion received for fixed-wing\u00a0aircraft\u00a0in the fiscal 2025 budget reconciliation funding to expand HC-130J operations to\u00a0two\u00a0additional\u00a0air stations, including Air Station Sacramento.<\/p>\n
CGNR-2018 is part of the service\u2019s broader HC-130J expansion effort. Future reconciliation-funded\u00a0aircraft\u00a0will include the third and fourth HC-130Js planned for Sacramento, with deliveries expected to begin in fiscal year 2030.
