A Fayette County man\u2019s decision to buy a lottery ticket while stopping by the pharmacy earned him $1 million.<\/p>\n
Pennsylvania lottery officials on Thursday presented Tony Corso, 65, of Fayette County with a commemorative check after he won playing a July drawing. The Powerball jackpot totaled $600 million when Corso purchased his ticket after a trip to the Walmart pharmacy in South Union Township.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was there picking up my wife\u2019s prescription,\u201d Corso said in a news release. \u201cShe recently suffered a heart attack.\u201d<\/p>\n
Corso \u2014 who said he likes to the play the lottery \u201cwhen the jackpot gets big\u201d \u2014 retired in May after running a small tire business.<\/p>\n
\u201cI didn\u2019t really need the money,\u201d he said. \u201cBut it feels good to have it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Corso in a news release said the money will help his wife retire.<\/p>\n
Man shot multiple times while hitching tractor-trailer in Butler County lot<\/p>\n
A man was shot multiple times Thursday while hitching up his tractor-trailer in Butler County, Pennsylvania State Police said.<\/p>\n
The shooting occurred before 4 a.m. Thursday in a parking lot on the 3800 block of Onieda Valley Road, according to state police.<\/p>\n
A 38-year-old man called police, saying he was shot multiple times by an unknown shooter.<\/p>\n
The victim was taken to the hospital. Police did not release details of his condition.<\/p>\n
State police said there is no known threat to the public at this time.<\/p>\n
An investigation is ongoing. Officials asked anyone with information to contact the Butler State Police Barracks at 724-284-8100.<\/p>\n
State Police arrest 450 drivers for DUI over Labor Day weekend<\/p>\n
Pennsylvania State Police arrested 450 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs over Labor Day weekend, officials announced Thursday.<\/p>\n
Troopers also issued more than 25,000 citations \u2014 nearly 6,500 of which were for speeding \u2014 during its Labor Day weekend enforcement initiative, which ran from Sept. 4-7.<\/p>\n
During that time period, state police investigated 790 crashes. Of those, 152 involved injuries and three were fatal.<\/p>\n
Officials said 67 of the crashes that occurred last weekend involved impaired driving. None of the fatal wrecks involved people driving under the influence.<\/p>\n
Over the same holiday weekend last year, there were 750 total crashes. That included seven fatal incidents, two of which were DUI-related.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s 450 DUI arrests over the holiday weekend reflects a decrease from 529 such arrests last year.<\/p>\n
