<\/a><\/p>\nThe Fullerton Elks Lodge hosted a Prom Event for children with special needs and their families on August 29. This marked the first time the Lodge organized such a celebration, which complements other annual events for these children. Approximately 85 children and family members attended.<\/p>\n
One Lodge member created a photo backdrop adorned with balloons and a banner reading \u201cProm 2026.\u201d Each child received a prom sash, and corsages and boutonnieres were crafted for all attendees, including the volunteers, by a Lodge member who crocheted them.<\/p>\n A live band played music, and many enjoyed dancing and having fun.<\/p>\n The Lodge has maintained a Special Child Program since 1985, typically hosting four private events each year for families involved in the program. These gatherings provide parents with an opportunity for a little respite from the continuous care their children require, allowing the kids to simply enjoy themselves.<\/p>\n The volunteers who made this event a success included Lisa Pacheco, Kevin and Doreen Scheerf, Ronda Peri, John Sigler, Anh Thu Nguyen, Susan Fields, Rosanna Harraka, Cory Brown, April Stilson, Luis and Kim Cruz, Bill Swaim, Darren Baker, Steve Marciano, Trudy Nuzum, Kathleen McCarthy, Nyada Turner, Mel Hunkin, Irene Marciano, Candy Valko, Dave Fonseca, Jackie Pritchard, and Kathy Cortez.<\/p>\n If you have a special child in your family, the Fullerton Elks Lodge\u00a0would love to hear from you. Iced tea, lemonade, and soda were also available, along with desserts provided by Nothing Bundt Cakes of Brea. All meals and drinks were offered free of charge.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a>The event wouldn\u2019t have been possible without the support of 24 dedicated volunteers. Some greeted attendees, while others assisted with cooking, serving, bussing, taking photos, and cleaning up. One member contacted their car club, Old School Bombs, which brought five classic automobiles that served as a charming backdrop for photos outside the Lodge.
