Fire destroys house in Rio Linda area of Sacramento County, officials say<\/p>\n

\"JonathanELVERTA, Calif. \u2014<\/p>\n

Crews extinguished a fire that tore through a house in the Rio Linda area of Sacramento County.<\/p>\n

The fire started around 3:30 a.m. at West Elverta Road east of Highway 99, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said.<\/p>\n

It is unclear if anyone was injured or if anyone was inside when the fire started.<\/p>\n

Large flames were seen coming out of the house. Crews had to go on the defensive and extinguished the flames from a distance because the house could not be saved. <\/p>\n

Flames spread to nearby grassland. The cause of the fire is unknown.<\/p>\n

This house fire was one of three major fires Metro Fire responded to Friday morning. A man died, and a firefighter was injured after an apartment complex fire near Watt and Whitney avenues, and crews extinguished a grass fire by the American River in the Rancho Cordova area.<\/p>\n
