Chris Kreider\u2019s agent, Matt Keator, said on Friday that his client is reviewing all his options and hopes to have a decision on where his next NHL home will be \u201cin the next three or four day.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is his first time as a free agent. He\u2019s a very intelligent guy and he\u2019s taking a very methodical approach,\u201d said Keator.<\/p>\n
Keator said the Boxford native and former Boston College star\u2019s priorities are to play in the east \u2013 he spent most of his career with the New York Rangers \u2013 and to play for a team that has a chance to win.<\/p>\n
The agent would not discuss individual teams, but the Bruins would seem to fit into those two requirements after making it back to the playoffs last season. Kreider also has the ability to get to the net, especially on the power play. That\u2019s a commodity that the Bruins could use, especially after Viktor Arvidsson signed with Detroit this summer.<\/p>\n
The Bruins have just under $5.4 million in cap space, according to puckpedia.com. Fitting a potential contract under the cap would not seem to present a problem. Now at the age of 35, Kreider is eligible for an incentive-laden deal that would keep the cap hit manageable.<\/p>\n
But the Bruins training camp roster is already somewhat cluttered, especially when you consider they hope to work in some young players like James Hagens. Acquiring the left wing, who had 22-28-50 totals in 75 games in his only season with the Ducks, may force the Bruins to move a veteran. One would think the leading candidate for a trade would be left wing Casey Mittelstadt, who has one year left on his deal before unrestricted free agency. Mittelstadt has a cap hit of $5.75 million.<\/p>\n
The Bruins would have to weigh how much better they would be, if at all, with what they might have to offload, whether it would be Mittelstadt or anyone else.<\/p>\n
