The San Francisco 49ers<\/a> have given a multiyear extension to coach Kyle Shanahan, sources confirmed to ESPN on Friday.<\/p>\n

Terms of the deal, which was first reported by The Ringer, are not yet known, but he had been under contract with San Francisco through the 2027 season.<\/p>\n

In his 10 seasons, Shanahan has an 83-67 regular-season record and has guided the 49ers to six playoff appearances, including Super Bowls trips — both losses — following the 2019 and 2023 seasons. He has won 10 or more games in a season five times.<\/p>\n

The 49ers opened the 2026 season in Australia with a 27-7 victory<\/a> over the Los Angeles Rams<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This summer, Shanahan suffered a concussion, three broken ribs and a broken left hand, among other injuries, in a car crash<\/a> on July 14.<\/p>\n

Shanahan, 46, was named coach of the 49ers on Feb. 6, 2017. He signed a multiyear contract extension in September 2023. With two more games, Shanahan will tie Bill Walsh for the most games coached with the franchise.<\/p>\n

Since he became head coach in 2017, the 49ers rank first in yards margin, outgaining their opponents by 7,774 yards — over 1,300 yards more than the next best team, theBuffalo Bills<\/a>(6,414).<\/p>\n
