A juvenile male has been released to the custody of his parents after leading mall security and deputies on a dangerous high-speed chase through the Victoria Gardens Mall in Rancho Cucamonga on an E-bike over the weekend. <\/p>\n

The Nov. 8 incident played out at around 6:30 p.m. when security personnel working at the sprawling 147-acre outdoor shopping center attempted to contact the teen, prompting him to flee to another area of complex, officials with the San Bernardino County Sheriff\u2019s Department said in a news release<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen deputies attempted to contact the rider, he drove at unsafe speeds, performed dangerous stunt maneuvers, made illegal turns and nearly struck multiple pedestrians and motorists,\u201d authorities said. \u201cHis actions endangered pedestrians, motorists and himself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Deputies were finally able to stop the underage suspect north through the mall and, after a brief struggle, take him into custody. <\/p>\n

After removing the teen\u2019s helmet and face mask, it was determined the suspect was a 15-year-old resident of Fontana. <\/p>\n

He was transported to SBSD\u2019s Victoria Gardens Substation where he was eventually released to a parent. His electric motorcycle was impounded. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear if the teen, who will not be identified because of his juvenile status, is facing any charges. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff\u2019s Station reminds the public that electric bikes and off-highway motorcycles have an appropriate place for safe and lawful recreation, but they are not permitted on public roadways, in pedestrian areas, or on shared-use paths and trails,\u201d officials said in the news release. \u201cReckless driving and the operation of illegal or off-highway vehicles will be enforced to ensure the safety of everyone in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n
