Saturday, Sept. 12<\/p>\n
Old Town San Diego State Historic Park leads off the weekend with\u00a0Fiestas Patrias\u00a0from\u00a011:00 AM to 4:00 p.m.\u00a0(4002 Wallace St., San Diego). The event features a community parade, hands-on traditional crafts, historic cooking demonstrations, live music, a guacamole contest and a reenactment of\u00a0“El Grito.”<\/p>\n
The Old Globe in Balboa Park simultaneously hosts its\u00a0Mexican Independence Day Celebration\u00a0from\u00a011:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.\u00a0at Copley Plaza (1363 Old Globe Way, San Diego). The schedule highlights live performances by Mariachi Continental San Diego, Danzarts Dance Company, Ballet Folkl\u00f3rico Yi-M\u00e1, a pi\u00f1ata workshop, Loter\u00eda, food trucks, and an official\u00a0“El Grito”\u00a0ceremony led by Consul General Kerber at 1:00 p.m.<\/p>\n
In North County, Escondido begins its two-day\u00a0Fiestas Patrias Festival\u00a0organized by USA Multicultural at Grape Day Park (321 N. Broadway, Escondido) from\u00a05:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Festivities include a\u00a0live mariachi,\u00a0danza folkl\u00f3rica, local food and craft vendors, a kids zone, and a beer and margarita garden.<\/p>\n
Sunday, Sept. 13<\/p>\n
The flagship civic observance,\u00a0“El Grito,” takes place from\u00a04:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.\u00a0at the Memorial Bowl in Chula Vista (373 Park Way). Hosted by the city and the Mexican Consulate, the evening includes food vendors, an artisan marketplace, live mariachi,\u00a0danza folkl\u00f3rica\u00a0and a performance by opera singer Manuel Vera. Consul General Kerber will lead the official\u00a0“El Grito”\u00a0ceremony at 7:00 p.m.<\/p>\n
Earlier in the day, Vista hosts\u00a0Vista\u2019s Fiestas Patrias\u00a0from\u00a012:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.\u00a0at the Linda Rhoades Recreation Center (600 N. Santa Fe Ave., Vista). The program includes youth and local ballet folkl\u00f3rico troupes, Mariachi Internacional de San Diego,\u00a0Danza de los Diablos, costume and Loter\u00eda contests and a 1:00 p.m.\u00a0“El Grito”\u00a0ceremony.<\/p>\n
San Diego\u2019s Holy Spirit Parish (2725 55th St., San Diego) holds its\u00a0Fiestas Patrias\u00a0from\u00a08:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., featuring food, live musical acts including Grupo Furia de la Sierra,\u00a0danza folkl\u00f3rica, and a 3:00 PM ceremony led by a consulate representative. Additionally, Escondido’s\u00a0Fiestas Patrias Festival\u00a0at Grape Day Park continues its second day from\u00a011:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

Tuesday, Sept. 15<\/p>\n
On\u00a0Tuesday, September 16, Chicano Park hosts\u00a0El Grito que defiende al pueblo\u00a0from\u00a05:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.\u00a0(1949 Logan Ave., San Diego), organized by Uni\u00f3n del Barrio to promote culture and community awareness. Across the border, Tijuana\u2019s\u00a0El Grito de Independencia\u00a0kicks off at\u00a06:00 p.m.\u00a0at Glorieta Miguel Hidalgo in front of Palacio Municipal (Blvd. Independencia 9302, Zona R\u00edo). The event features a free concert by Ernesto Solano \u2018La Voz Original y su Maguey,\u2019 a livestream of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum\u2019s ceremony from Mexico City and a live address by Tijuana Mayor Abdiel Guti\u00e9rrez.<\/p>\n
