There will be no homecoming for Chris Kreider with the Bruins.<\/p>\n
The Boxford native, who agreed to have his contract with the cap-crunched Anaheim Ducks earlier this week to become a free agent, will instead be reunited in Montreal with his former GM with the New York Rangers Jeff Gorton, now the Canadiens\u2019 team president.<\/p>\n
Habs\u2019 GM Kent Hughes announced late Saturday afternoon that the Canadiens had come to terms with the 35-year-old Kreider on a one-year deal. Sportsnet\u2019s Elliotte Friedman reported that it\u2019s a $2.15 million cap hit with bonuses that could bring it up by $3 million more.<\/p>\n
Kreider could have helped the B\u2019s and there were some discussions with the left wing\u2019s camp. Kreider still has decent wheels and the former Boston College star is very good at getting to the net, a skill the B\u2019s could have used after the departure of Viktor Arvidsson. Kreider is still productive. He had 22-28-50 in 75 games with the Ducks last year.<\/p>\n
But in the end, Kreider has a comfort in the Montreal organization. Along with the Gorton connection, he played with coach Martin St. Louis in New York and Canadiens\u2019 trainer Jim Ramsay was a long-time trainer with the Rangers before leaving for Montreal in 2023.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"There will be no homecoming for Chris Kreider with the Bruins.
