OBITUARY

Raymond S. Keyes, “Chub”, passed away peacefully at his home on August 16, 2026, surrounded by his family and caregivers.

Ray earned his BS in Biology and his Masters in Marine Ecology from SDSU in 1969. He joined SeaWorld San Diego in 1972 and went on to become the Curator of Fishes. One of the things he enjoyed most was collecting and transporting sharks-work that perfectly captured his adventurous spirit and fascination with marine life.

In 1983, Ray combined his scientific knowledge with his creative talents to found Aquatic Design Systems. He and his staff created custom aquariums, ponds, and water features worldwide.

Curious by nature, Ray enjoyed gardening, scuba diving, watercolor painting, home renovations, golf, and raising and breeding draft horses. He especially loved sharing his adventures with his wife, Jeanette, traveling together to Italy, France, Greece, Croatia, Russia, and Mexico.

In Idaho, Ray and Jeanette built a home that became a gathering place for family and friends, and a porch view of the Tetons that brought him peace. He lived by a strong moral compass. His integrity, curiosity, perseverance, and belief in doing what is right are among the greatest gifts he passed to his children and grandchildren.

Above all, Ray’s greatest joy was his family. He and Jeanette spent 57 years of love, adventures, and hard work. He was a devoted husband, a loving father to Ryan Keyes (Alice) and Tracy Meza (Humberto), and a proud grandfather to Matthew and Jackson. His family will carry his lessons, stories, stubborn determination, and curiosity.

The family thanks Ray’s devoted caregivers for their compassion and dedication. We are forever grateful.

Memorial gifts may be made in Ray’s name to the Animal Rescue,

horsesoftirnanon.org or a charity of your choice.

As Ray requested, his life will be celebrated in a small, private family gathering. The family welcomes message of memories you have shared with Ray.

Raymond Keyes OBITUARY Raymond S.
