Pepperdine Women\u2019s Soccer<\/a> ended their four-game road trip with a shutout 4-0 victory over California State University, Fresno<\/a> on Sept. 10. The win over the Bulldogs improved the Waves to 3-2-2 on the season.<\/p>\n

After facing Fresno State for the first time since 2024, when Pepperdine secured a 5-0 win in Malibu, the Waves now hold a 7-1-1 all-time record against the Bulldogs. The Waves\u2019 lone loss came as a result of the first matchup between the two schools back in 2000, according to Pepperdine Athletics<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Starting off strong, the Waves applied offensive pressure by showcasing seven corner kicks within the first 30 minutes.<\/p>\n

The first goal of the game came in the 35th minute, courtesy of senior forward Julia Quinonez<\/a>, her fifth goal of the season. Quinonez earned preseason all-conference team honors<\/a> and gained more national attention since being added to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List<\/a>, according to Pepperdine Athletics<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Following Quinonez, freshman midfielder Fiona McCormick<\/a> scored the first goal of her collegiate career six minutes later, according to Pepperdine Athletics<\/a>. The Waves closed the first half with a score of 2-0.<\/p>\n

McCormick, building off her energy from the first half, netted her second goal of the night with an assist by junior midfielder Alex Pendleton<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pepperdine extended their lead when the final goal of the match came from freshman forward Sam Hosford<\/a> in the 59th minute.<\/p>\n

The match ended with nine fouls and one yellow card for Pendleton in the 80th minute, while Fresno State ended with two fouls, according to Pepperdine Athletics<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Ava Hartstein<\/a> kept Fresno State scoreless by recording six saves in the shutout win, two of which came in the first 15 minutes. The Waves also outshot the Bulldogs 21-8 and recorded nine corner kicks compared to the Bulldogs\u2019 one, according to Pepperdine Athletics<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Waves had plenty to celebrate, as the match represented Hartstein\u2019s first collegiate start in goal and freshman midfielder Eva Awoyinka\u2019s<\/a> first minutes on the pitch in uniform. Redshirt sophomore Ava Schall<\/a> also made her return to the field for the first time since October of 2025, according to Pepperdine Athletics<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With their 4-0 blowout, the Waves moved up to tie for second place in the West Coast Conference (WCC)<\/a> standings with University of San Diego<\/a> and Seattle University<\/a>, according to WCC Sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Waves will return to home turf to face University of Arizona<\/a> on Sept. 13 at Tari Frahm Rokus Field<\/a> and celebrate senior day and mental health awareness<\/a>.<\/p>\n
