Former unified light-welterweight world champion Jose Ramirez suffered his third straight loss Saturday afternoon, falling to Alexis Rocha by unanimous decision in his first fight at welterweight.<\/p>\n
The Avenal native fought Rocha in a 10-round bout at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, which was part of the undercard for the Ryan Garcia-Conor Benn event.<\/p>\n
The loss continues a difficult stretch for Ramirez, who has not won since April 2024, when he defeated Rances Barthelemy by unanimous decision in a 12-round fight at Save Mart Center.<\/p>\n
Since then, Ramirez has lost to Arnold Barboza Jr., Devin Haney, and now Rocha.<\/p>\n
At 34 years old, Ramirez\u2019s next move remains uncertain.<\/p>\n
Ramirez turned professional in 2012 when he was 20 and quickly became one of the most prominent boxers to emerge from the central San Joaquin Valley.<\/p>\n
He signed with Top Rank and regularly brought fights to the area, including appearances at Selland Arena, West Hills-Lemoore and Tachi Palace.<\/p>\n
He opened his professional career with 21 consecutive victories before earning his first world-title opportunity in March 2018 against Amir Imam in New York City. Ramirez won by unanimous decision to claim the WBC light-welterweight title.<\/p>\n
In 2019, Ramirez added the WBO title, stopping Maurice Hooker by technical knockout in Arlington, Texas.<\/p>\n
Ramirez remained unbeaten through his first 26 professional fights before losing to Josh Taylor in a fight for the undisputed junior welterweight championship.<\/p>\n
He bounced back with three consecutive victories but has now lost three straight, including Saturday\u2019s defeat to Rocha.<\/p>\n
Ramirez leaves the fight with a professional record of 29-4 with 18 knockouts.<\/p>\n
What comes next for Ramirez is unknown. But regardless of what he decides, his impact on boxing in the Fresno area is undeniable.<\/p>\n
Ramirez, along with manager Rick Mirigian, helped bring major boxing events to the Fresno area and allowed local fans to watch a hometown fighter compete on a national stage.<\/p>\n
