Sacramento nonprofit works to introduce minorities to the field of fire inspection<\/p>\n

\"Cecil<\/a>SACRAMENTO, Calif. \u2014<\/p>\n

The Sacramento chapter of 100 Black Men is working to diversify the field of fire inspection by partnering with experienced fire inspectors to host a multi-day training program.<\/p>\n

Participants pay a fee to register for the course, which provides training, a certificate, and assistance during the hiring process. <\/p>\n

Rocklin Fire Chief Reggie Williams explained the critical role of fire inspectors in preventing incidents. <\/p>\n

“Firefighters respond after an incident happened. Fire inspectors prevent those incidents from happening,” Williams said. <\/p>\n

Williams also stressed the importance of diversity in fire inspection roles. <\/p>\n

“I think when you have someone that comes into a business that looks like you, that you can attach to… it helps us to get compliance a little bit easier,” said Williams.<\/p>\n

Herman Johnson, president of the Sacramento chapter of 100 Black Men shared the nonprofit’s mission to mentor youth and introduce them to new career opportunities. <\/p>\n

“The mission of 100 Black Men is to mentor our youth,” Johnson said, as he explained the goal of this initiative. Johnson believes young people in Sacramento often miss out on great careers due to a lack of exposure.<\/p>\n

The first of several classes is Oct. 3. <\/p>\n
