Strength: Emerging artists<\/p>\n

House of Blues San Diego, which opened in 2005, is located in the Gaslamp Quarter of downtown San Diego. The venue holds approximately 1,100 attendees in its Music Hall main stage and 250 attendees in its Voodoo Room side stage. Both modest spaces radiate a sense of intimacy, catering to up-and-coming artists and emerging fan communities.<\/p>\n

New Hope Club<\/a> and Small C<\/a>rush<\/a> have been highlighted at this venue, creating heartfelt memories as emerging artists who shared smiles and jokes with the crowd. Rising artist Hannah Bahng<\/a> covered songs while introducing audiences to her unique sound and music.\u00a0<\/p>\n

SOMA San Diego<\/p>\n

Strength: Artist individuality\u00a0<\/p>\n

SOMA San Diego, originally located in downtown San Diego and now adjacent to Pechanga Arena, radiates an individualizing energy. The distance between these two venues is close, yet they could not be more different when it comes to what makes each one unique.<\/p>\n

SOMA has two stages: the Mainstage, which holds 2,300 standing attendees and the Sidestage, which holds up to 500.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The venue caters to genres like indie, experimental, alternative and punk. SOMA\u2019s environment enhances artists\u2019 individuality, allowing them to connect directly with audiences and other artists. SOMA is a more intimate space than its neighboring arena, which allows artists\u2019 encouragement of audience interaction.<\/p>\n

Artists such as Snow Strippers<\/a>, Skeggs<\/a> and The Garden<\/a> and their respective genres encourage movement and closeness from the audience. During Snow Strippers\u2019 show, the duo sparked a full-on dance party while Skeggs encouraged audience interaction through crowd surfing.<\/p>\n

The Observatory North Park<\/p>\n

Strength: Passion for entertainment<\/p>\n

The Observatory North Park originally opened in the 1930s as West Coast North Park, a movie theater that later closed in 1989. It then reopened as Lyric Opera in 2005, which then closed in 2011. The venue was restored and reopened as The Observatory North Park in 2015 as a 1,100-capacity concert venue. Driven by its continuous passion for entertaining San Diegans, the venue extends that same creative energy to the artists it supports.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Innovative hyperpop duo 100 gecs<\/a> showcased their music as they owned the stage in wizard costumes. Earl Sweatshirt and Action Bronson<\/a> toured in collaboration with distinct personalities, Earl Sweatshirt being described as unapologetically himself with his music and Action Bronson as a persona that feeds off the energy of the crowd.<\/p>\n

Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre<\/p>\n

Strength: Promotes advocacy\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre, designed as a classic Greek-style amphitheater,, is embedded in SDSU\u2019s campus. Seating approximately 4,280 people, the venue provides a clear view of the sky alongside performances.<\/p>\n

This open-air theater has fostered artists like Rene\u00e9 Rapp<\/a> and Thee Sacred Souls<\/a>. During Rene\u00e9 Rapp\u2019s show, she raised awareness for multiple social-issue organizations, which spoke out to SDSU students. One of these organizations was the University of California, San Diego\u2019s chapter of PERIOD., an organization that addresses healthcare inequalities.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre on Sept. 12, 2026.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n

Thee Scared Souls\u2019 performance of their 1960s-inspired ballads highlighted soul music\u2019s historical connection with advocacy. Thee Scared Souls took a moment to mention addressing national and international issues, such as ICE raids in the United States and historic land conflicts in Palestine This followed into their song \u201cOn My Mind,\u201d which speaks on social injustice in the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Viejas and Pechanga Arena\u00a0<\/p>\n

Strength: Energy\u00a0<\/p>\n

Viejas Arena, a multi-purpose venue also located on SDSU\u2019s campus, provides Aztecs with the best of both worlds. Functioning as both a sports and commencement venue, the 13,500-capacity concert arena transforms into a place where San Diegans can experience energetic performances by their favorite artists or watch SDSU football or SDFC.<\/p>\n

The arena\u2019s vast space allowed artists like Kaytranada and Justice<\/a> and Rauw Alejandro <\/a>to perform with two distinct high-energy genres: EDM and reggaeton. Rauw Alejandro presented the audience with a three-act show that follows a story, while Kaytranada and Justice transformed the arena into a world that gets you lost in their music.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Similar in energy, Pechanga Arena, a neighbor to SOMA in the Midway District, is a multi-purpose space that seats approximately 15,000 attendees.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Artists used different elements of visual experiences to keep the arena engaged and energetic. In 2024, Peso Pluma<\/a> brought along a special element: bracelets that lit up the entire arena. Tyler, The Creator<\/a>\u2019s \u201cChromakopia\u201d tour in 2025 created a profound experience through set design that highlighted his journey as an artist.<\/p>\n

Petco Park and Gallagher Square<\/p>\n

Strength: Culture<\/p>\n

Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, is located in the East Village of downtown San Diego. With an estimated seating capacity of 39,860, the stadium emphasizes both baseball and musician fan culture.<\/p>\n

Gallagher Square, located behind the outfield wall inside the ballpark, holds up to 6,000 attendees.<\/p>\n

Artists like Deftones,<\/a> who host their annual D\u00eda de los Deftones festival in the ballpark, incorporate their cultural identity into the event through its \u201cD\u00eda de los Muertos\u201d (Day of the Dead) theme. Green Day<\/a>\u2019s \u201cSaviors\u201d tour in 2024 celebrated culture through the pop-punk genre and punk attire. Punk, a genre heavily associated with anti-establishment ideals, including pop music, served as a main source of inspiration for the band.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At Gallagher Square, Doechii<\/a> connected with her fans through music that persuades them to learn and reflect, while a co-headlining tour with Rise Against and Papa Roach <\/a>emphasized punk music culture through political commentary.<\/p>\n
