SacRT begins testing for Green Line near Sacramento’s Railyards<\/p>\n

Sacramento Regional Transit riders may notice trains moving along the Green Line near the Railyards area starting Monday, but passengers won\u2019t be able to board them just yet.<\/p>\n

SacRT began operator training and train testing on the Green Line on Sept. 14, as the agency prepares to restore passenger service, which has been suspended for more than a year.<\/p>\n

The trains being used for training will display \u201cTESTING\u201d on their headsigns to make it clear they are not in service.<\/p>\n

SacRT temporarily suspended Green Line service in June 2025 to allow for major construction in Sacramento\u2019s Railyards, including track alignment work and construction of a new light rail station at 7th Street and Railyards Boulevard.<\/p>\n

The new station will connect the growing Railyards development with SacRT\u2019s light rail system. The Green Line runs between 13th Street in downtown Sacramento and Township 9 near Richards Boulevard. SacRT has also identified the Railyards station as an important future connection for new housing, businesses and the planned Major League Soccer stadium.<\/p>\n

Before passenger service can resume, SacRT said operators must complete training, and the system must undergo required testing and receive final approvals.<\/p>\n

SacRT expects the Green Line to reopen to passengers by mid-October.<\/p>\n

Until then, riders traveling to and from the Richards Boulevard area can use SacRT Bus Route 11 to connect with downtown light rail service.<\/p>\n

SacRT is reminding people who see Green Line trains running during the testing period not to attempt to board them.<\/p>\n
