Cal State Fullerton and Fullerton College announced the implementation of the Future Titan Center at Fullerton College on Sept. 4, dedicated to supporting Fullerton College students through their transfer process to CSUF.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The first of its kind in Orange County, the new center builds on the support already provided by the Fullerton College Transfer Center by regularly offering on-site CSUF representatives and services for Fullerton College students.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Data from the 2026-2027 Fullerton College catalog indicates that 1,350 students transfer annually, and that 85% to 90% transfer to a CSU. The CSUs with the highest transfer rates for Fullerton College students are CSUF, Long Beach State and Cal Poly Pomona.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Around half of CSUF’s student body is made up of transfer students. The university’s largest feeder school for transfer students is Fullerton College, with 14% of the total transfer population coming from there.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Cal State Fullerton is by far the number one destination for our students,” said Cecilia Arriaza, Director of the Fullerton College Transfer Center. “That’s where most of our students transfer to, and we always wanted to look at ways to improve that pipeline.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Future Titan Center will provide Fullerton College students access to representatives from various programs and organizations across campus, including the Office of Financial Aid, the Transfer Adult Re-Entry Parenting and Pregnant Student Center and Disability Support Services.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Students will be able to consult with these representatives to learn about available campus resources for CSUF students and to navigate the differing application processes between Fullerton College and CSUF, as well as access to workshops, presentations and individual drop-in services offered at the center.<\/p>\n
Jessica Barco, Associate Vice President of Strategic Enrollment Management at CSUF and the center’s project manager alongside Arriaza, said the presentations offered at the center will align with the typical timeline students follow for college application season.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“That’s going to be part of building that sense of belonging,” Barco said. “This is not only who we are, but these are the things that you want to know and ask questions about, and we’re going to help you figure that out.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
While the new center is open to all students without qualification requirements, the center will use a brief intake process to identify students’ needs. Students will also be given follow-up surveys to evaluate the center’s services and assess their level of engagement.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The center is also considering engaging in internal outreach efforts and working closely with students who signed up for Fullerton College’s Transfer Success Pathway, a partnership program with the CSUs that offers participating students guaranteed admission to a degree program and CSU of their choice.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The center is part of the plan developed by Fullerton College and CSUF during their participation in the Aspen Transfer Student Success Intensive, a year-long virtual workshop designed to support community and state colleges in advancing practices and policies that benefit transfer student outcomes.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Representatives from both CSUF and Fullerton College, including the presidents of both institutions, attended mandatory monthly meetings to discuss all aspects of students’ transfer processes and areas needing improvement. The meetings included guided conversations, input from stakeholders at both campuses, and a panel organized to gather student feedback.\u00a0<\/p>\n
During the intensive, the two institutions developed the Strategic Transfer Excellence Plan (STEP), establishing four goals to support transfer students: improving three-year transfer rates for Fullerton College students, increasing the number of students transferring from Fullerton College, increasing two-year graduation rates for Fullerton College students who transfer to CSUF and establishing a sense of belonging for Fullerton College students at CSUF.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The two institutions also developed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that includes a transfer guarantee for Fullerton College students to CSUF, provided they meet specific criteria.\u00a0<\/p>\n
During the student panel, students stated that they struggled to navigate new university systems and lacked connections with staff and faculty, according to Arriaza.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Beyond launching the Future Titan Center, Arriaza said organizers are exploring ways to improve academic pathways, including providing faculty-designed four-year maps that outline transfer and course requirements.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Additionally, organizers aim to increase data sharing between the two institutions to track transfer students’ progress and provide timely support for students throughout their transfer process.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“We know that a lot of Fullerton College students transfer to Cal State Fullerton, but we know that there’s more that could,” Arriaza said. “Our hope with this center is that students, from the beginning, they know that they can be a future Titan.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
