He had been arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents after crossing the southern border illegally into Arizona in August 2023, the Department of Homeland Security said, and was later released into the country. Union leaders \u2014 including President Anica Walls \u2014 announced the move on Labor Day, citing unfair labor practices. The union represents around 100,000 California state workers, and its contract expired June 30.<\/p>\n
