Kelley, Press-Telegram\/SCNG)\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\" class=\"icon-enlarge mng-gallery-fullscreen-expand\" aria-label=\"Expand fullscreen slideshow\">Expand<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Current and potential investors got to preview a groundbreaking plan to bring clean nuclear energy to the Port of Long Beach on Tuesday, Sept. 15.<\/p>\n<p>The gathering of about 150 invited guests listened to a one-hour panel discussion that featured entrepreneur Kofi Asante, founder and CEO of BlueCore Energy, discussing the work to test and provide a floating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailybreeze.com\/2026\/08\/17\/port-of-long-beach-could-bring-nuclear-power-to-california-for-first-time-in-50-years\/?share=0rtoao5oi6buw1anoais\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">small modular nuclear reactor<\/a> on a barge at the Long Beach port.<\/p>\n<p>Safety, pragmatism and inclusiveness are among the operating goals of the company, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstelegram.com\/2026\/08\/16\/kofi-asantes-unexpected-turn-from-the-humanities-to-nuclear-energy\/?share=gidcrehett2emiohchn2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Asante<\/a> said.<\/p>\n<p>The two-hour event at BlueCore Energy\u2019s Berth 48 headquarters also included a tour of the docked barge.<\/p>\n<p>The goal of the project is to generate electricity to power the port\u2019s operations and vessels, and is being done in partnership with the Port of Long Beach and the U.S. Maritime Administration. The port has set its sights on becoming the world\u2019s first \u201cgreen\u201d port, with fully zero-emission operations.<\/p>\n<p>Besides Asante, the panel discussion also included Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson and Port of Long Beach CEO Noel Hacegaba.
