The lawsuit alleges unpaid rent and other charges, including common-area maintenance, insurance, water bills, and late fees.<\/p>\n
The complaint states a five-day \u201cNotice to Pay Estimated Rent or Surrender Possession\u201d was served July 15, 2026, demanding $138,579.98 by July 27, 2026. <\/p>\n
The plaintiff alleges the defendants neither paid nor surrendered possession by that deadline.<\/p>\n
The lawsuit seeks possession of the premises through eviction, $138,579.98 in past-due rent, forfeiture of the lease, ongoing damages of $2,179.37 per day from Aug. 1, 2026, until judgment, as well as attorney\u2019s fees and court costs. <\/p>\n
The filing includes supporting documents such as the lease, guaranty, the five-day notice, an unpaid-charges ledger and proofs of service. The allegations in the complaint have not been proven in court.<\/p>\n
The theater\u2019s troubles come as the movie theater industry has faced a slow recovery and tough competition. The cost of running large multiplex buildings has increased over time, and locations have experienced trouble securing movie studio bookings and faced shortages in concessions.<\/p>\n
Maya Cinemas was founded in 2000 and is owned by Moctesuma Esparza, an award-winning film producer and entrepreneur.
