BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK\/KBFX) Diesel prices in Bakersfield climbed to another record this week, adding new pressure on farmers and other businesses that rely on fuel to move goods.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the price per gallon of diesel in Bakersfield hit $8.06 a gallon, six and a half months after the war with Iran started as the cost of diesel continues to keep rising.<\/p>\n

The increase comes as a key pipeline in Saudi Arabia remains shut down after Iranian-backed proxies struck it with drones. <\/p>\n

At the same time, Houthi militants in Yemen, also backed by Iran, have seized control of islands and coastal towns on the Bab al Mandeb Straight, another key petroleum transit route.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend, President Trump blamed Ukraine\u2019s President Volodomyr Zelensky for high diesel prices, saying Ukraine\u2019s military strikes on Russian oil refineries are contributing to a shortage. \u201cHe has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia. Let him go after targets but not diesel fuel because he’s causing a shortage of diesel,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

On Capitol Hill, House Democratic leader Hakeem Jefferries said high energy costs are a problem of the president\u2019s own. \u201cThe reckless and costly war of choice has increased gs prices on everyday Americans,\u201d Jefferies said.<\/p>\n

Back in Bakersfield, higher diesel prices are driving up supply chain costs for local farmers, including Kern County farmer Jason Giannelli.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of things that it affects than just the farm. It affects everybody,\u201d Giannelli said.<\/p>\n

He said higher diesel costs have created higher costs for items such as fertilizer, crop inputs and parts. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt makes our fertilizer costs more. Not only that our crop inputs. Other crop inputs. And then our parts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Despite the strain, Giannelli said farmers are trying to adapt. \u201cRight now, it\u2019s just its part of the economy right now. It’s just, we have to roll with it.
