FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) \u2014 An armed robbery suspect was taken into custody Tuesday night after an hourslong standoff with Fresno police and SWAT officers at a northeast Fresno home.<\/p>\n
The Fresno Police Department said the investigation began around 11:10 a.m. with a reported armed robbery at the AutoZone at 3102 E. Gettysburg Ave., near First Street.<\/p>\n
Police said the man entered the store, showed a gun and stole items before leaving in a car on Gettysburg Avenue.<\/p>\n
Undercover officers who were already in the area began searching nearby neighborhoods and spotted a car matching the description in the backyard of a home along East Gettysburg Avenue. Officers also saw a man matching the suspect’s description in the backyard.<\/p>\n
Police surrounded the home and used a drone to track the suspect as he went inside. Negotiators spent several hours trying to make contact with him, but police said they were unsuccessful.<\/p>\n
Because the robbery involved a gun, SWAT was called to the scene and took over the operation.<\/p>\n
Gettysburg Avenue was shut down between First and Fresno streets as officers surrounded the home.<\/p>\n
SWAT officers eventually entered the home and took the suspect into custody. Police said no force was used and no one was injured.<\/p>\n
A second person was also inside the home, but police said only one person is suspected in the robbery.<\/p>\n
The suspect was taken to Fresno Police Department headquarters for questioning. Police said he has a criminal history and lives at the home where the standoff occurred.<\/p>\n
Detectives remained at the scene Tuesday night serving a search warrant. Gettysburg Avenue was expected to remain closed for about an hour after the arrest while investigators searched the property.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FRESNO, Calif.
