Another grocery product has been added to the list of food recalls affecting California<\/a> shoppers.<\/p>\n

Whole Foods Market recalled<\/a> a cheese product because it contains an undeclared allergen, according to the California Department of Public Health.<\/p>\n

The recalled cheese was sold at Whole Foods grocery stores<\/a> in several states, including California.<\/p>\n

What is Whole Foods Market recalling in California? Why?<\/p>\n

On Friday, Sept. 11, Texas-based Whole Foods Market recalled<\/a> its two Cabricharme cheese product because they contain egg lysozyme, a protein derived from egg whites that was not listed on the product label.<\/p>\n

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the undeclared allergen could pose a serious health risk to people with an egg allergy.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction<\/a> if they consume this product,\u201d the FDA said in its Sept. 11 recall notice.<\/p>\n

No illnesses had been reported as of the recall announcement, according to the FDA.<\/p>\n

The recalled cheese was cut and wrapped in plastic by the pound and sold with Whole Foods Market scale labels.<\/p>\n

Affected products will have \u201cbest if\u201d or \u201cused by\u201d dates up to and including Oct. 7.<\/p>\n

The recalled cheese was sold<\/a> at 18 Whole Foods Market stores in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island, according to the FDA.<\/p>\n

What should I do if I bought the recalled cheese?<\/p>\n

If you purchased the recalled cheese, do not eat it.<\/p>\n

\u201cCustomers who purchased the product<\/a> do not need to return it but are urged to destroy it,\u201d the FDA said. \u201cAnyone who purchased the affected product may obtain a full refund with a valid receipt from place of purchase.\u201d<\/p>\n

Consumers with questions can cal Whole Foods Market at 1-844-936-8255<\/a> from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n
