The Elk Grove Police Department will hold a sobriety and driver\u2019s license checkpoint at an undisclosed location Friday, the agency said in a news release.<\/p>\n

The checkpoint is scheduled from 7 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday within the city limits.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe checkpoint will focus on removing impaired drivers under the influence of either alcohol or drugs, as well as unlicensed drivers from the roadways,\u201d the release said.<\/p>\n

Officers also will distribute educational materials about the dangers of driving under the influence to motorists who pass through the checkpoint. Authorities encouraged anyone who suspects a driver is impaired to call the department at 916-714-5111 or 911.<\/p>\n

Funding for the checkpoint comes from a California Highway Patrol Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program, authorities said. The department conducted similar checkpoints<\/a> in May, June and August.<\/p>\n

California law requires drivers to stop and submit<\/a> to a sobriety checkpoint when directed by law enforcement<\/a>.<\/p>\n
