OAKLAND \u2014 An East Bay nonprofit that focuses on homelessness bought an Oakland hotel engulfed in financial woes, including a failed real estate loan.<\/p>\n

Radisson Hotel Oakland Airport was bought by an affiliate of Cardea Health<\/a> for $15.5 million, documents on file with the Alameda County Recorder\u2019s Office show.<\/p>\n

The 286-room hotel at 8400 Edes Ave. was part of a marketing effort by commercial real estate firm Berkadia Hotels & Hospitality Group<\/a> to sell the property.<\/p>\n

Radisson Hotel Oakland Airport was previously involved in a court-ordered receivership over a loan delinquency, according to Alameda County Superior Court records.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn February 2025, the property was placed into receivership, following a decline in performance following the COVID-19 pandemic,\u201d Berkadia Hotels & Hospitality Group stated.<\/p>\n

Prior to the sale, a proposal was filed with Oakland planners to convert the hotel into a residential complex with slightly more rooms. Plans called for 291 apartments, with 288 set aside as affordable and three available for managers.<\/p>\n

Supportive services were slated to be provided to occupants in 105 of the affordable units, planning documents show.<\/p>\n

Cardea Health is now at the site. This news organization reached out to the nonprofit for a comment on the sale.<\/p>\n

According to its website<\/a>, Cardea Health \u201coperates multiple programs targeting individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness and complex illness,\u201d<\/p>\n

The nonprofit says its care model has led to better health outcomes for residents of its sites and a better quality of life.<\/p>\n
