Washington State built a 2-0 sets lead before the Bisons mounted a comeback to win 3-2. It was the first reverse-sweep the Cougs suffered since Oct. 25, 2025, when they lost to the University of San Diego.<\/p>\n
\u201cI do think [Lipscomb] adjusted better than we did,\u201d Schroeder said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s on me and us as a staff to make those in-game adjustments.\u201d<\/p>\n
WSU picked up a win against Southern Utah (0-8, 0-0 Big Sky) in straight sets.<\/p>\n
Since leaving Pullman, the team has gone 2-3 in five road matches.<\/p>\n

Long Beach State:<\/p>\n
LBS heads into the two-match stretch on a six-game win streak. The Beach dropped its first two matches to UCLA, but has lost six sets since.<\/p>\n
Two of the Beach\u2019s victories \u2014 against Utah and Wyoming \u2014 went to five sets. LBS reverse-swept Wyoming.<\/p>\n
Outside hitter Sidney leads the team offensively. She is averaging 3.68 kills per set on a .253 hitting percentage.<\/p>\n
Middle blockers Pola Bujnarowska and Kyler Birkelbach anchor LBS defensively. They have 23 and 21 blocks, respectively. Birkelbach has also contributed 1.62 kills per set.<\/p>\n
The team\u2019s Swiss Army knife is setter Madi Maxwell. She has 239 assists, while leading the team with 100 digs. She has also recorded 57 kills.<\/p>\n

Cougars\u2019 keys to success:<\/p>\n
Schroeder said they need to slow down Hamaker on the right side. He said the team struggled to stop Lipscomb\u2019s right-side attack, which was a reason why WSU lost that game.<\/p>\n
The Cougs should also aim to limit Maxwell\u2019s impact. Schroeder said Lipscomb\u2019s setter Kelsey Schenck was good at keeping WSU\u2019s block guessing by moving the ball around.<\/p>\n
One way to keep her a non-factor is to force the Beach out of system by applying pressure from the service line. The Cougs could also target her from the service line so she cannot run into position to set.<\/p>\n
