California\u2019s 6th Congressional District stretches from Placer County through North Sacramento communities and over to West Sacramento. Its boundaries changed after the passage of Proposition 50 \u2013 a measure to redraw the state\u2019s congressional map to favor Democrats<\/a> in response to the GOP-led redistricting effort in Texas.<\/p>\n

While the new district leans Democratic, it\u2019s currently a tight race between Independent Congressman Kevin Kiley and former Democratic State Senator Richard Pan.<\/p>\n

Kiley, who currently holds the CD 3 seat, is seen as the incumbent in CD 6 where many communities overlap with his current district, including parts of Roseville and Rocklin. Kiley, whose district was one of the five targeted by Prop 50, reregistered from Republican to Independent after the redistricting measure passed and is pushing a more bipartisan message in his run for reelection.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that our message has really resonated with folks here who are sick of all the partisanship and are sick of the two sides blaming one another for our problems and would like to see them come together to actually solve those problems,\u201d Kiley told CapRadio on election night after the June primary.<\/p>\n

CD 6 is a critical battleground district for Democrats looking to pick up five additional congressional seats during the midterm elections.<\/p>\n

Pan, a Democrat and medical doctor, is running on his experience as a Democrat in the state legislature. He has touted his efforts to increase health coverage in the Sacramento region and has criticized the Trump administration\u2019s cuts to Medicare and SNAP.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He\u2019s also worked to tie those cuts to Kiley.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have someone who voted to take healthcare away from people and you have someone who worked to get more people healthcare. You have someone who\u2019s voted to take food away from people, you have someone who worked to get food to people when they\u2019re hungry. I think the voters gotta decide which one they prefer,\u201d Pan told reporters after the polls closed for the June Primary.<\/p>\n

Kiley led Pan by a point during the June primary election. The general election is on Nov. 3.\u00a0<\/p>\n
