{"id":466307,"date":"2026-09-17T03:18:07","date_gmt":"2026-09-17T03:18:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/466307\/"},"modified":"2026-09-17T03:18:07","modified_gmt":"2026-09-17T03:18:07","slug":"bicyclist-struck-killed-by-truck-trailer-as-driver-turns-out-of-parking-lot-long-beach-police-say-long-beach-post-news-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/466307\/","title":{"rendered":"Bicyclist struck, killed by truck trailer as driver turns out of parking lot, Long Beach police say \u2022 Long Beach Post News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Police say a bicyclist died after he was struck by a semi-truck\u2019s trailer as it turned out of a parking lot in West Long Beach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crash happened shortly after 11 p.m. on Sept. 4 on Pacific Coast Highway near Canal Avenue, according to Long Beach police.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bicyclist was heading westbound on the south sidewalk when a semi-truck made a right turn out of a parking lot, police said. The bicyclist tried to stop short, but the trailer struck him and knocked him to the ground.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bicyclist was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Police said they weren\u2019t notified of his death until Sept. 10.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Police identified him as a 68-year-old man from Long Beach, but withheld his name pending family notification.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The semi-truck driver kept driving eastbound on PCH, police said. A detailed description of the semi was not immediately available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Long Beach has recorded 35 fatal crashes this year.
