Explore local monuments, communities and environmental beauties on foot during the eighth annual Ranchos Walk on Saturday, Sept. 26.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This scenic hike takes participants on a 9.4-mile urban trail from Rancho Los Cerritos to Rancho Los Alamitos. Along the way, visitors will learn about Long Beach heritage and stroll through the highest areas of the city, such as Longview Point at Willow Springs Park and Signal Hill\u2019s Hilltop Park.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In addition to the full route, the walk will also feature shorter 3.5-mile and 6-mile routes, with the option to start from Reservoir Hill or Willow Springs Park, respectively. Participation in the event is free with registration<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cRanchos Walk spans across Long Beach neighborhoods, highlighting some of our most notable historical, cultural and natural features,\u201d said Mayor Rex Richardson in a public statement. \u201cThis event is a testament to the strides the City has made thus far to support safe and walkable infrastructure. I encourage our residents to take advantage of this unique guided exploration of Long Beach.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

As attendees stroll through the city, they can hear about notable people, places and events in Long Beach history via a free audio tour on the IZI travel app<\/a>, available on Apple and Android mobile devices.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Following the walk, there will be a celebration at Rancho Los Alamitos with music, games and activities, plus food and beverages available for purchase. Additionally, shuttle services will transport participants back to each start location.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This annual event coincides with California Pedestrian Safety Month and aims to promote active, fun and safe ways for walkers to explore and discover local neighborhoods and landmarks, according to the City. Additionally, the Ranchos Walk supports the City\u2019s Safe Streets Action Plan<\/a> by providing free education and resources with the goal of diminishing pedestrian and bicycle-related injuries.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are proud to welcome Ranchos Walk participants again this year as they journey through the Fifth District,\u201d said Fifth District Councilmember Megan Kerr in a public statement. \u201cParticipants over the years have experienced how our city has grown and evolved. The City is committed to safety, livability and accessibility in our neighborhoods, and I appreciate how Ranchos Walk showcases the improvements that have been made and creates mobility education opportunities for our residents.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Ranchos Walk is led by the City\u2019s Office of Climate Action and Sustainability, with sponsorship in part from the Port of Long Beach. The event is also supported by Walk Long Beach and various City departments, including Health and Human Services and Public Works.<\/p>\n
