Police investigate a crash that took place in Eastpointe in 2025. (MACOMB DAILY FILE PHOTO)<\/p>\nA Macomb County roundabout has topped a list of Michigan\u2019s 20 most dangerous intersections for 2025, according to a study by attorneys who specialize in auto crash law.<\/p>\n
Several other crossings in Macomb and Oakland counties also were named in Michigan Auto Law\u2019s 2024 report identifying the Top 20 Most Dangerous Intersections in Michigan. The Farmington Hills-based law firm released its report this week.<\/p>\n
Topping the list of the most crash-prone intersections is the roundabout at 18 1\/2 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue in Sterling Heights.<\/p>\n
The intersection reported 210 crashes and 12 injuries in 2025, according to data compiled from the Michigan State Police Traffic Crash Reporting Unit. The number of crashes is up 29.6% from 162 in 2024.<\/p>\n
The report\u2019s goal isn\u2019t to alarm motorists, but to help them stay informed and safe, Steve Gursten, firm president and an attorney there, said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven when a crash doesn\u2019t result in an injury, it can have a significant impact on a driver and their family,\u201d Gursten said in a news release. \u201cWe hope this annual list encourages Michigan drivers to slow down, remain alert, and take extra precautions when traveling through these areas.\u201d<\/p>\n
In Michigan, the leading causes of intersection accidents include: running red lights, disregarding stop and yield signs, failing to yield the right-of-way, disregarding the right-of-way laws, improper left hand turns, speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving.<\/p>\n

2) 11 Mile Road at Van Dyke Avenue on the border of Center Line and Warren, with 180 crash, 1 fatality and 33 injury crashes.<\/p>\n
Long known as a hot spot for vehicular crashes, the total number of crashes fell by 2.7% from 185 crashes in 2024 but the number of injuries rose by 26.9% from 26 the previous year.<\/p>\n
3) Telegraph Road at 12 Mile Road in Southfield<\/p>\n
This Oakland County intersection had 121 crashes with 28 injuries. That marks a 14.1% increase in crashes from 2024, along with a 21.7% increase in injuries from 23.<\/p>\n

4) Orchard Lake Road at 14 Mile Road in Farmington Hills, with 118 crashes and 9 injuries<\/p>\n
The study found this roundabout\u2019s total crashes increased 8.2% while injuries also increased from 5 in 2024.<\/p>\n
5) Martin Parkway and North Pontiac Trail in Commerce Township, 107 total crashes, 9 injuries<\/p>\n
Oakland County\u2019s largest roundabout saw a 29.1% decrease in total crashes from 151 the year before, while the number of injuries remained the same.<\/p>\n
6) State Road at W. Ellsworth Road in Ann Arbor, 93 crashes and 5 injuries<\/p>\n
The roundabout saw the number of crashes increased from 85 in 2024.<\/p>\n
7) 12 Mile at Interstate 94 in St. Clair Shores, with 86 crashes and 21 injuries<\/p>\n
The total number of crashes went up from 75 crashes and 11 injuries in 2024.<\/p>\n
8) N. Hamilton Street at Washtenaw Avenue in Ypsilanti, 85 crashes, 8 injuries<\/p>\n
The total number of crashes decreased from 132 the year before.<\/p>\n
9) Schoolcraft Road at Telegraph in Redford Township, 84 crashes, 18 injuries<\/p>\n
The total number of crashes plunged from 137 crashes and 26 injuries in 2024.<\/p>\n
10) Telegraph at Maple Road in Bloomfield Township, 83 crashes, 47 injuries<\/p>\n
This location is new to the top 20 ranking. The number of crashes jumped from 59, and the number of injuries also increased from 22 in 2024.<\/p>\n
11) Lee Road at Whitmore Lake Road in Green Oak Township, 82 crashes, 2 injuries<\/p>\n
The total number of crashes rose from 80, but total injuries dropped from 3 in 2024.<\/p>\n
12) Southfield Road at W. 11 Mile in Lathrup Village, 81 crashes, 23 injuries<\/p>\n
The number of crashes rose from 76, but the number of injuries fell from 38 one year prior.<\/p>\n
13) US 131 at Wealthy Street in Grand Raids, 78 crashes, 21 injuries.<\/p>\n

Both the number of crashes increased from 73 and along with the number of injuries going up from 12 in 2024.<\/p>\n
14) Hall Road at Schoenherr Road in Sterling Heights, 76 crashes, 14 injuries.<\/p>\n

15) Metropolitan Parkway at Van Dyke in Sterling Heights, 77 crashes, 21 injuries.<\/p>\n
The number of crashes jumped from 54, while the number of injuries decreased from 16 in 2024.<\/p>\n
16) Burton Street SW at US 131 in Grand Rapids, 76 crashes, 11 injuries.<\/p>\n
The number of crashes went up from 64, and the number of injuries fell from 17 in 2024.<\/p>\n
17) Dix Avenue at M-39 in Lincoln Park, 75 crashes, 23 injuries<\/p>\n
The number of crashes dropped from 68, and the number of injuries increased from 22 in 2024.<\/p>\n
18) Interstate 96 at Milford Road in Lyon Township, 70 crashes, 6 injuries<\/p>\n

19) 23 Mile Road at M-53 in Shelby Township, 69 crashes, 14 injuries<\/p>\n
