Six people were injured Thursday after a vehicle crashed into a Bloomfield Township restaurant, police said.<\/p>\n
The building, which is located in a shopping center, will remain closed until repairs are made and officials can determine its structural soundness, according to authorities.<\/p>\n
The crash happened at about 1:40 p.m. on Telegraph Road north of Long Lake Road, according to authorities.<\/p>\n
Bloomfield Township police said a vehicle driven by a 77-year-old Bloomfield Hills woman crashed into the storefront of Thai Taste to Go.<\/p>\n
Police officers and firefighters were called to the business, they said. Five people were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, investigators said. Another person was treated at the scene and released.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are grateful that the injuries sustained were not life-threatening, and we appreciate the quick coordination between the police and fire departments,\u201d Bloomfield Township Police Chief James Gallagher said in a statement. \u201cWe want to thank the witnesses who assisted on scene and to the West Bloomfield Township Fire Department for their assistance.\u201d<\/p>\n
Detectives continue to investigate the cause of the crash and are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the Bloomfield Township Police Department at (248) 433-7755.<\/p>\n
The phone number for the restaurant was not working on Friday, and its owners did not respond to a request for comment sent by email.<\/p>\n
Officials have responded to other incidents involving vehicles crashing into buildings in Metro Detroit.<\/p>\n
Last month, no injuries were reported in a crash between\u00a0a vehicle and a house\u00a0on Detroit\u2019s west side. Police said the home was occupied at the time of the crash.<\/p>\n
Also in October, a Detroit woman allegedly drove an SUV into a Center Line home, causing serious injuries to a 9-year-old girl who was asleep inside.\u00a0The woman was charged\u00a0with reckless driving.<\/p>\n
