Period package party<\/p>\n

Students Against Period Poverty (SAPP)\u00a0 is inviting teens to help make care packages to help those experiencing financial hardship. These care packages will have\u00a0menstrual and hygiene products, as well as handmade crafts for donation to a local shelter.<\/p>\n

SAPP\u2019s period care package party is set for Sept. 25, 4-6 p.m. at the Milpitas Library. Registration is required to https:\/\/bayareane.ws\/4dDYTSb<\/a><\/p>\n

Teens interested in gaining service hours must complete the volunteer application at https:\/\/bayareane.ws\/3UIbH3B<\/a>. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to gain service hours credit.<\/p>\n

Meritorious recognition<\/p>\n

Eleven Milpitas High School seniors are among about 16,000 high school students in the graduating class of 2027 \u2014 less than 1% of U.S. seniors \u2014named semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program.<\/p>\n

The semifinalists, announced on Sept. 9, qualified based on their scores on the Preliminary SAT. About 95 percent are expected to attain finalist standing on the strength of an application detailing academic performance, participation in activities, employment and leadership. About half the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, to be announced in the spring.<\/p>\n
