FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) \u2014 An eighth-grade student at Washington Colony Elementary School is being recognized for excelling in the classroom, on the field and in her school community.<\/p>\n
Layla Huerta, who has been enrolled at Washington Colony since kindergarten, has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout all of middle school. <\/p>\n
She also participates in multiple sports throughout the year and has been a member of the middle school band.<\/p>\n
School staff described Layla as a student who goes above and beyond academically and socially, noting that she is respectful, responsible, prepared and follows directions. <\/p>\n
She pushes herself academically, takes feedback from teachers and supports her peers in their learning while reinforcing her own knowledge. <\/p>\n
Staff also said Layla works well with individuals of different backgrounds and makes sure everyone is included.<\/p>\n
Among her service activities at school and in the community, Layla has been involved with WC Girls Varsity Volleyball, Girls Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Softball and the Middle School Leadership class. She also helps with the PBIS Store.<\/p>\n
Outside of school, Layla is a member of Easton Elite Dance. She is also a sister to both an older and a younger sibling.<\/p>\n
Layla\u2019s involvement in academics, athletics, activities and service was highlighted as an example of a well-rounded student, with staff saying she has demonstrated servant leadership qualities expected to continue in high school and beyond.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FRESNO, Calif.
