As the trees begin to change colors and pumpkin spice lattes become the norm again, I find myself retreating back into the comfort of a very special show: \u201cGilmore Girls.\u201d The fall is the perfect season to not just rewatch \u201cGilmore Girls,\u201d but to live like Lorelai and Rory Gilmore for a day. And luckily for us, Berkeley has its fair share of charming and picturesque spots to enjoy \u2014 just like the girls\u2019 hometown of Stars Hollow. So get out your favorite white sweater and prepare to drink a lot of caffeine. \u201cGilmore Girls\u201d season is officially here!<\/p>\n
Start your morning off with coffee (of course)<\/p>\n
This is your excuse to finally try that cafe you\u2019ve been eyeing or revisit a tried and true favorite. But if you want the cozy fall aesthetic, then I\u2019d recommend Edmonds\u2019 Caf\u00e9 or The Hidden Cafe. And if you\u2019re willing to go a little farther, then a place like El Tiny Cafe might be right up your alley! Not only can you enjoy a good cup of coffee, but you can also take the time to sit back, relax and rifle through the latest copy of The Daily Californian.<\/p>\n
Stop by a bookstore<\/p>\n
Stars Hollow had just the one, but Berkeley has several local bookshops that would make the perfect addition to any \u201cGilmore Girls\u201d-themed day. You could consider stopping by my personal favorite Sleepy Cat Books, Moe\u2019s Books, Pegasus Books Downtown or even Mrs. Dalloway\u2019s \u2014 coincidentally, \u201cGilmore Girls\u201d has referenced Virginia Woolf multiple times. If you\u2019re anything like Rory, this could very well be the last stop of your day, but I\u2019m afraid the article doesn\u2019t end here!<\/p>\n
Lock in at the Graduate Berkeley<\/p>\n
Are you really a UC Berkeley student if you don\u2019t squeeze in at least one study session? Whether you have to take care of an assignment or want to start studying for a midterm, I recommend heading over to the Graduate by Hilton Berkeley hotel. After all, Lorelai worked as an inn manager and Rory would often help out, sometimes getting her schoolwork done there. If you have to study, you might as well do it in true \u201cGilmore Girls\u201d fashion!<\/p>\n
Grab lunch at Oceanview Diner<\/p>\n
By now, you\u2019re probably starving. For lunch, feel free to get burgers, pizza, hot dogs or anything you\u2019d normally consider to be junk food. Oceanview Diner on Fourth Street seems to match the vibe and menu of Luke\u2019s Diner, but any similar restaurant will do!<\/p>\n
Have your own \u201cScene in a Mall\u201d<\/p>\n
Lorelai and Rory have some of the most iconic outfits, and it\u2019s always fun to update your wardrobe during the fall! Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek is one of my favorite places to shop, but you can also explore Berkeley\u2019s vintage stores \u2014 think Anastasia\u2019s Vintage on Telegraph Avenue or Crossroads downtown, not to be confused with Croads. This activity is best done with a friend or two, especially if you want to continue your \u201cGilmore Girls\u201d day with the next step.<\/p>\n
Go for \u201cFriday night dinner\u201d<\/p>\n
Every Friday night, Lorelai and Rory have dinner with Lorelai\u2019s wealthy parents, Emily and Richard Gilmore. If you want to similarly treat yourself to a fancy restaurant like Il Fornaio or indulge yourself in a three-course homemade meal (without any walnuts in the salad), now\u2019s the time! Just make sure you save some room for dessert \u2014 Lorelai and Rory would!<\/p>\n
Wind down with movies and popcorn<\/p>\n
If you still have the energy, you might catch a movie at Rialto Cinemas in Elmwood or another local theater. Otherwise, you could consider having friends over for a sleepover and movie night! You can\u2019t go wrong with a Gilmore favorite like \u201cCasablanca\u201d and \u201cPippi Longstocking,\u201d or the show \u201cGilmore Girls\u201d itself. Whether it\u2019s your first or fiftieth time watching \u201cGilmore Girls,\u201d there\u2019s always something new to appreciate about it!<\/p>\n
