BILLINGS, Mont. \u2014 The Billings Mustangs are just one win away from bringing a 16th Pioneer Baseball League championship back to Billings.<\/p>\n
After a 12-2 win over the Long Beach Coast in California on Tuesday, the Mustangs are coming home with a one-game advantage in the three game championship series and a chance to finish it in front of their home crowd.<\/p>\n
First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. Friday at Dehler Park, weather permitting.<\/p>\n
The Mustangs broke open a tight game in Game One with a grand slam and another home run. The teams were tied through seven innings before Billings pulled away.<\/p>\n
Both the Mustangs and the Coast finished the regular season with 67 wins, the most in the PBL.<\/p>\n
A win Friday would give the Mustangs their first PBL championship as an independent MLB Partner League club and their first championship in more than a decade.<\/p>\n
And the players are hoping to have a packed Dehler Park behind them as they try to finish the job.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh, you know I\u2019d love to see a packed crowd. You know I know they\u2019ve got those towels going out for the first thousand, so you know if we can get those swinging around and, you know, the energy staying up, you know, we\u2019ll provide it in the dugout as long as they combine with us,\u201d Mustangs player AJ Shaver said. \u201cI mean it would be perfect scenery.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Mustangs will be looking for that energy from their home crowd as they try to close out the championship series.<\/p>\n
But weather could play a role.<\/p>\n
Rain is in the forecast for Friday, and fans are encouraged to keep an eye on updates before heading to the ballpark.<\/p>\n
