Norms restaurants will mark the diner chain’s 77th anniversary next week by offering stacks of two hotcakes for 77 cents at its locations in Southern California, the company announced Friday.

The one-day offer will be available from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday for dine-in customers and to-go orders placed through the Norms website or rewards app, with a limit of two orders per person.

Norms was founded in 1949 by Los Angeles native Norm Roybark, who opened the first restaurant near Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street in Hollywood.

The chain expanded across Southern California during the postwar era, becoming known for its coffee-shop architecture, large roadside signs and round-the-clock dining.

Its La Cienega location, at 470 N. La Cienega Blvd. in Los Angeles, opened in 1957 and is the chain’s longest-operating restaurant. The building was designed by architects Louis Armet and Eldon Davis, whose work helped define the Googie style associated with Southern California’s mid-20th century automobile culture.

The La Cienega restaurant features the chain’s distinctive sawtooth pennant sign spelling out NORMS and other elements of the futuristic Googie style.

The Los Angeles City Council designated the La Cienega restaurant a Historic-Cultural Monument in 2015 following an effort by preservationists to protect the building.

Norms remained under the ownership of the Roybark family for more than six decades and three generations before the restaurant business was sold in late 2014.

The chain has continued to expand and now operates 24 locations in Riverside, Los Angeles and Orange counties and Las Vegas, according to the company.

Norms restaurants will mark the diner chain’s 77th anniversary next week by offering stacks of two hotcakes for…

[27
184396,184397,9376,184398,48,52,51,47,50,49,39734,80879
post-468271","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-los-angeles","tag-77-cent","tag-77th","tag-anniversary","tag-hotcakes","tag-la","tag-la-headlines","tag-la-news","tag-los-angeles","tag-los-angeles-headlines","tag-los-angeles-news","tag-mark","tag-norms
["GET
