(KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kernsheriff.org\/in-custody-death-reporting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kern County Sheriff\u2019s Office records<\/a>, a person died while in custody on Monday, September 14.<\/p>\n<p>According to records, the person was identified as a 42-year-old woman awaiting trial. It said the woman died while at the county jail facility.<\/p>\n<p>The mean and manner of death were listed as \u201cpending investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Previous reported in-custody deaths in 2026 were:<\/p>\n<p>January 11, 2026: 39-year-old man at a crime\/arrest scene in Kern County. Mean of death was rifle\/shotgun with manner of death as \u201cHomicide Justified.\u201dMarch 4, 2026: 62-year-old woman at a hospital in Kern County. Mean of death was alcohol\/drug overdose.April 9, 2026: 59-year-old man at a crime\/arrest scene in Tulare County.
