BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 A man was arrested months after allegedly murdering his girlfriend, 31-year-old Ariana Rangel Ortega, in southwest Bakersfield back in July 2026. An autopsy showed her death was caused by strangulation and blunt force injuries.<\/p>\n
The Bakersfield Police Department said on Thursday, September 17th, 2026, Bakersfield Police Department homicide detectives and members of their Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) arrested 34-year-old Alfonso Rosales-Ortiz for the murder of his girlfriend, 31-year-old Ariana Rangel Ortega.<\/p>\n
Police said on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, just after 9 a.m., Ortega was found non-responsive in her home in the 10300 block of Monahan Street in southwest Bakersfield.<\/p>\n
Emergency medical personnel took Ortega to Mercy Hospital Southwest, where she was pronounced dead at 9:31 a.m.<\/p>\n
Police said Rosales-Ortiz and the victim had a history of domestic violence incidents.<\/p>\n
While the victim did not show obvious signs of recent trauma at that time, during the investigation, BPD homicide detectives developed evidence implicating Rosales-Ortiz in the death, according to police.<\/p>\n
The Kern County Coroner\u2019s Office subsequently ruled the victim\u2019s death a homicide. The report said an autopsy was conducted, and the cause of death was determined to be the combined effects of strangulation and blunt force injuries<\/p>\n
