BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 An elderly woman was rescued after a house fire in east Bakersfield Thursday night.<\/p>\n
The Kern County Fire Department said on Thursday, September 17, at around 9:51 p.m., firefighters were called to a house fire in the 1300 block of Ralston Street.<\/p>\n
They were assisted by the Bakersfield Fire Department.<\/p>\n
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the home.<\/p>\n
According to the fire department, neighbors told them that an elderly woman was still trapped inside.<\/p>\n
Locked gates and a locked front door blocked access to the house, so firefighters said they used specialized tools to get inside.<\/p>\n
Crews entered the smoke-filled home and began searching for the woman while other firefighters worked to control the fire.<\/p>\n
The woman was found unconscious inside the home and carried to the front yard. No one else was inside.<\/p>\n
Firefighters immediately began lifesaving treatment and provided oxygen. KCFD said she began breathing and regained consciousness before being taken to Kern Medical.<\/p>\n
The rescue was completed about two minutes after the incident commander arrived and eight minutes after the initial dispatch.<\/p>\n
Crews continued to extinguish the fire, which was found in a rear bedroom.<\/p>\n
