A new partnership in the Inland Empire and Orange County offers blood donors free blood testing \u2014 to boost the region\u2019s blood supply while helping people manage their health.<\/p>\n
San Bernardino-based LifeStream Blood Bank<\/a> has joined with\u00a0Goodlabs<\/a>, which offers free preventive health testing to donors. The program launches Tuesday, Sept. 22, at LifeStream\u2019s San Bernardino donor center<\/a> and Thursday, Oct. 1, at its Murrieta location<\/a>, a news release<\/a> states.<\/p>\n It will start Tuesday, Sept. 29, in Orange County at LifeStream\u2019s Placentia donor center.<\/a><\/p>\n Under the program, donors can visit participating lab clinics or blood donation centers<\/a>, such as LifeStream, get their blood drawn, and receive\u00a0digital results in a few business days. A doctor\u2019s note or insurance is not required.<\/p>\n Those who book a donation through Goodlabs can choose from a range of options, such as a general panel, women\u2019s hormones, men\u2019s hormones, heart health, nutrients and others, the release states.<\/p>\n These tests can cost over $100 \u2014 not counting copays or deductibles \u2014 and put them out of reach for many, especially those who are uninsured or underinsured, Goodlabs officials said in the release.<\/p>\n \u201cBlood donation is one of the simplest ways to do good, and we believe it should also help people feel better \u2014 by giving them access to meaningful information about their own health,\u201d Grant Brewster, CEO and co-founder of Goodlabs, said in the release. \u201cOur partnership with LifeStream makes it easier for people to strengthen the blood supply while giving donors something valuable in return.\u201d<\/p>\n Nearly 1 in 5 adults report putting off preventive screenings, including bloodwork. More than half of U.S. adults have delayed or skipped necessary care<\/a> in the past year, often due to out-of-pocket costs or scheduling barriers, according to a national survey released by Nice Healthcare Management.<\/p>\n Goodlabs offers guidance to help donors understand their results, the release states. Blood tests are processed through the same labs a doctor\u2019s office would use.<\/p>\n Blood donations have drastically declined over the past two decades<\/a>. Over the summer, blood donations fell to a four-year summer low, according to the American Red Cross, which declared a national blood crisis\u00a0for the second time<\/a> in its history.<\/p>\n In the U.S., someone receives a blood transfusion every two seconds<\/a>, blood bank officials said. Blood is essential to help with cancer treatments, trauma response and childbirth complications, but maintaining a stable supply depends on donations, the release states.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are many compelling reasons for our donors to give blood, and thousands every year,\u201d LifeStream President and CEO Scott Miller said in the release. \u201cNone of those incentives, however, offer the same benefit that preventative blood testing does, which makes this partnership a potential game changer in battling our blood shortage here in Southern California.\u201d<\/p>\n The LifeStream and Goodlabs partnership can be found at:<\/p>\n LifeStream San Bernardino Donor Center 2, 420 E.
