A man who police said was firing a gun from the backyard of a Woodland home was shot and killed by officers Friday afternoon after at least two hours of negotiations, officials said. <\/p>\n
Woodland police said officers initially responded around 2 p.m. to reports of shots fired in the area of Johnston Street and Alice Street. When officers arrived, they determined a man was firing shots from the backyard.<\/p>\n
The department’s SWAT team and crisis negotiation team were called in as officers worked to get the man to surrender.<\/p>\n
After at least two hours of negotiations, officers fired their weapons and struck the man, police said. Despite life-saving efforts, the man died at the scene. He has not yet been identified.<\/p>\n
Police did not say what the man was initially shooting at or provide details about the type of gun he had.<\/p>\n
No officers were injured.<\/p>\n
Authorities said they believe there is no longer a threat to the public, but investigators are expected to remain at the scene throughout Friday evening.<\/p>\n
Police had earlier urged people to avoid the area and use alternate routes. Some nearby homes were evacuated, while other residents in the immediate area were asked to remain indoors.<\/p>\n
