{"id":468751,"date":"2026-09-19T05:40:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-19T05:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/468751\/"},"modified":"2026-09-19T05:40:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-19T05:40:09","slug":"san-jose-places-moratorium-on-private-detention-centers-amid-ice-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/468751\/","title":{"rendered":"San Jose places moratorium on private detention centers amid ICE concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">San Jose is placing stronger controls on the development of private detention facilities within its borders in response to fears that the federal government may establish new immigration centers in the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to place a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sanjose.legistar.com\/View.ashx?M=F&amp;ID=15825797&amp;GUID=7A894B33-C6DF-4D4A-A416-D0AF37CB0025\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">45-day moratorium<\/a>\u00a0on any proposal to create or expand detention facilities on private land in the city. In addition, councilmembers also directed staff to draw up measures to regulate these projects.
