LAKE ORION, Mich. (WNEM) \u2013 A 17-year-old high school student from Pontiac was taken into custody after a school resource officer collected a BB gun from her backpack, according to the Oakland County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
Deputies received a tip at about 8:24 a.m. of a possible handgun on campus at Lake Orion High School, the sheriff\u2019s office said. The school resource officer was notified and removed the student from the classroom without incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe recovered item was a loaded .177-caliber revolver-style BB gun. The black, metal BB gun closely resembled an actual handgun\u201d Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. \u201cAfter receiving information about a possible firearm on campus, deputies working with school staff were able to locate the classroom, the student\u2019s backpack, and the weapon in less than 10 minutes. This incident reaffirms our strong belief that any information about a potential threat at school must receive immediate attention from both school and law enforcement officials so we can step in quickly. Thankfully, this scary situation was resolved safely and without further incident.\u201d<\/p>\n
The student was lodged in the Oakland County Children\u2019s Village. The sheriff\u2019s office said the prosecutor\u2019s office will review potential charges that include possession of a pneumatic gun in a weapon-free school zone and carrying a pneumatic gun with intent to use it unlawfully against another person.<\/p>\n
