SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — State health officials are warning about a possible measles exposure across California including the Bay Area.<\/p>\n

A person with measles who was unvaccinated traveled around the state in trains and buses, according to health officials.<\/p>\n

The person was eventually hospitalized.<\/p>\n

The California Department of Public Health says the person first arrived in Los Angeles on an Amtrak train from Chicago on September 10.<\/p>\n

They then made their way to Denver making multiple stops in California along the way including at the Emeryville (Amtrak) Station on September 13.<\/p>\n

The other cities the person traveled through are Oroville, Sacramento, Stockton and Bakersfield.<\/p>\n

Experts say the risk is very low for people who have already been vaccinated.<\/p>\n

And for those who have not been vaccinated, it might not be too late.<\/p>\n

“If you are exposed in the early period, that is a week or less, you can actually get a vaccine if you’re willing because it takes up to three weeks for measles to incubate, so it’s very slow,” said Dr. Peter Chin-Hong with UCSF.<\/p>\n

Measles symptoms can include fever, runny nose, cough, and a rash.<\/p>\n
