Police fatally shot at a man Friday afternoon at a Woodland home<\/a> after a two-hour standoff with the man who reportedly had been firing a weapon from his backyard.<\/p>\n The fatal police shooting occurred at the home in the area of Johnson and Alice streets, less than two blocks south of Main Street and abut two blocks east of the Woodland Police Department.<\/p>\n Sgt. Ryan Bowler, a police spokesperson, said officers responded to reports of gunfire. He said the officers arrived and determined the man was firing a gun from the backyard.<\/p>\n Shortly after 2 p.m. Friday, the Police Department\u2019s SWAT team and a crisis negotiation team was called to the Woodland home.<\/p>\n About 3:30 p.m., the Police Department announced on a Facebook post<\/a> that officers were \u201chandling an active incident\u201d near Johnston and Alice streets and urged residents to avoid the area and use alternate routes. Police also asked nearby residents to remain indoors and avoid the police activity.<\/p>\n Bowler said after two hours of negotiating with the man to de-escalate the situation, officers fired their guns and wounded the man. Despite life-saving measures, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.<\/p>\n It was unclear how the police shooting unfolded. The Police Department as of Friday evening had not released any specific details, including whether the officers were returning fire, how many officers fired their guns or how many shots were fired by the man.<\/p>\n Bowler said the investigation into the shooting was still in its early stages, and the officers\u2019 body-worn camera video still needed to be reviewed. He said investigators were still trying to determine who or what the man was shooting at when he fired the gun from his backyard.<\/p>\n The police spokesperson said he didn\u2019t have any information about what circumstances might have led to the initial gunfire in the backyard.<\/p>\n Authorities on Friday evening had not released any information about the man fatally wounded in the police shooting, including his name and age.<\/p>\n Bowler said police believe there was no further threat to nearby residents.
