FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Former Action News anchor Nancy Osborne is being remembered by colleagues, friends, and family for her decades of work in broadcast journalism and her lasting impact on Central California.<\/p>\n
Osborne began as the “Sun Stereo Girl” before discovering a passion for broadcast journalism at the ABC30 studios. She later joined the team in 1977 and built a reputation as a writer, storyteller, and communicator.<\/p>\n
“The way she wrote was the way she talked and it just penetrated,” Rich Rodriguez, former Action News Anchor said.<\/p>\n
Osborne’s longtime co-anchor, Warren Armstrong, reflected on her love of reporting by sharing her own words.<\/p>\n
“Getting out on the street meeting, people covering stories, that part of the business to me is the most exciting part about it,” Osborne said.<\/p>\n
Tom Moscatelli first met Osborne in the early 1970s when she came to his home to do a story about woodstoves. He said all these years he’s kept the footage.<\/p>\n
“She was always thinking of her job and her performance she was dedicated I would say,” Moscatelli said.<\/p>\n
During her career, Osborne covered a wide range of stories, from Queen Elizabeth’s visit to Yosemite to reporting from inside a cockpit with the Blue Angels. Colleagues described her as a trailblazer for women in television news.<\/p>\n
“We came up during the time where there were not a lot of women in newsrooms,” Juanita Stevenson said.<\/p>\n
“Even with all of her experience, Nancy still had to fight for some of the things that she wanted to do,” Stevenson added.<\/p>\n
Outside the newsroom, Osborne was known as “Honey” to her granddaughter, Channing.<\/p>\n
“She had this incredible ability to turn an experience into a memory to take something ordinary and make it feel magical to make it feel like you’re a part of something special,” Channing said.<\/p>\n
Action News colleagues said Osborne’s professionalism, warmth and joyful spirit left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside her. Armstrong recalled a conversation about her philosophy on journalism and the way she approached people.<\/p>\n
“I think if you give people respect, they will give you that respect in return. Well, we certainly have respect for you and all your accomplishments. You are missed at home and in our newsroom, but your impact on our colleagues here in Central California will be felt for decades to come, thank you Nancy,” Armstrong said.<\/p>\n
