A 56-year-old man went overboard Friday night, Sept. 18, on a Carnival cruise ship as it was traveling from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to Long Beach, authorities said.<\/p>\n
The man went overboard about 50 miles off the coast of Mexico\u2019s Baja California peninsula, U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Charlie Valor said.<\/p>\n
Carnival Cruise Line officials were notified Saturday of a missing guest and initiated search and investigation procedures, including reviewing surveillance footage on the Carnival Panorama, according to a Carnival spokesperson.<\/p>\n
Carnival officials then notified the Coast Guard on Saturday afternoon, officials said.<\/p>\n
The Coast Guard has been coordinating with the Mexican Navy and nearby commercial vessels in ongoing search and rescue efforts since then, Valor said.<\/p>\n
As of Sunday night, the man had not been located.<\/p>\n
\u201cCarnival is providing support to the family who was traveling with the guest, and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones,\u201d a Carnival spokesperson said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The ship departed from Long Beach on Sept. 13 for a 7-night trip, sailing to Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta before returning to Long Beach on Sunday.<\/p>\n
